Olson All-American at NCAA Indoor Championships 2014 Updated

Erik Olson (Novato) of Stanford competed in the Mens 3000m on Saturday and earned first-team All-America honors by placing 7th in 8:14.77. The race was won by Edward Cheserek of Oregon in 8:11.59. .

Erik Olson placed 12th in the Mens 5000m in 14:34.40 on Friday.  The Stanford Men won the Distance Medley Relay and the Women placed 2nd in the DMR.

Olson Makes History

The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on March 14-15 at the Albuquerque (N.M.) Convention Center. Stanford’s Erik Olson (Novato) has qualified in two events.  Erik is the 4th seed in the Men 3000m with the time of 7:50.81 and the 8th seed in the Men 5000m with the time of 13:42.52. These two times are the fastest times run by a Marin collegiate runner. Richie Boulet of Drake/CAL held the fastest 3000m and 5000m times by a former MCAL athlete.

In 1995 Richie Boulet of Drake/CAL competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships and placed 2nd in the 3000m in 8:06.92. At CAL his PR in the 3000m was 7:56.00 from his 1995 Indoor season which places him at #3 on the CAL All-Time Top Performers List. Richie is #7 on the All Time list in the Outdoor 5000m with the time of 13:49.47 from 1997.

Erik is #4 on the Stanford All Time Indoor List in the 3000m and #6 on the All Time Indoor list in the 5000m.

MPSF Indoor Championships

MPSF Indoor Championships  Feb 28 – March 1, 2014 Seattle, Washington

Men 3000m run  Erik Olson (Novato) a senior at Stanford placed 3rd in 7:50.81. The race was won by Edward Cheserek of Oregon in 7:47.20.

Women 5000m run:  Megan Bordes (Redwood) is a freshman at CAL and placed 17th in 17:49.04. The race was won by Rebekah Winterton of Utah in 16:30.51.

Men 5000 Meter Run INVITE

Erik Olson (Novato) of Stanford ran a PR in the 5000M to place 4th in 13:42.56 The race was won by Edward Cheserek of Oregon in 13:40.51. Erik’s time puts him at #6 on the Stanford All-Time List.

9:40 a.m.  8 x 200 meter relay, 4 girls, 4 lads (girl, boy, girl, boy etc.; no divisions)

9:55 a.m.  100m meter hurdles, 110m high hurdles at race height (girls, boys by categories — new, moderate, advanced)

10:25 a.m. 100 meters (boys, girls, by new, moderate, advanced)

11:20 a.m. 3 laps  (boys, girls)

11:45 a.m.  600 meters (boys, girls, by new, moderate, advanced)

12:00 p.m. 300 meters intermediate or low hurdles at race heights (boys, girls by new, moderate, advanced)

Field events begin at 9:30 a.m., except girls’ pole vault and triple jumpers; two attempts for shot and discus, two misses in vault and high jump, two jumps from where you take off in long jump and triple jumps;  when the boys’ vault and the long jump are completed, the girls’ vault and triple jump begin.

Olson Sets PR in 3KM

Erik Olson (Novato), a senior at Stanford, ran 7:57.78 in the Invitational 3000m Run to place 2nd. The race was won by Patrick Tiernan of Villanova in 7:57.75, a new meet record. Erik also broke the former meet record of 7:58.51.
