D5 Girls Race Julia Maxwell of Branson won the D5 Girls race for the 3rd year in a row. Julia is the first MCAL athlete to win State 3 years in a row. Her time of 18:12 is #4 on the MCALGirls Top 10 list. Julia now owns 4 of the top 10 times (1,2,4,9). The Branson team made MCAL history as the FIRST MCAL Girls’ team to place 1st at State. The previous best was a 4th place finish by Branson in 2012.

NCAA Div l West Region   Friday, November 15  Sacramento, CA

Erik Olson (Novato) of Stanford ran another exceptional race and helped his team win the NCAA Div l West Region Meet and qualify for the NCAA Championships. Erik ran 29:48 (4:48) to finish 3rd in the race. The race was won by Edward Cheserek of Oregon in 29:35 (4:46). Jim Rosa of Stanford placed 2nd in 29:43 (4:47). Clayton Hutchins (Drake) of Cal Poly continued to have a great freshman season by placing 85th in 31:39 ( 5:06).  Cal Poly’s team finished 7th out of 17 teams.

2013 MCAL Cross Country Championships   Wed. Nov. 6, 2013   Indian Valley College

The San Rafael Boys Team won the MCAL Championships. They were led by Nassim Kabbara who finished in 4th place in 17:02. The race was won by Fred Huxhum of Redwood in 16:11. The Redwood Boys placed 2nd with Andy Ehrenberg finishing 2nd in 16:42. The Drake team placed 3rd with Matt Saunders finishing in 5th place in 17:07. Dominic Lecouturier of Marin Catholic placed 3rd in 16:55.

The Branson Girls Team won the MCAL Championships for the first time, breaking the Redwood Girls winning streak. Branson was led by Julia Maxwell who won the race in 18:51 to become the first MCAL athlete to win the MCAL Cross Country Championships 4 years in a row! Branson placed 3 runners in the top 5 with Anna Harleen placing 4th in 19:58 and Allie Williams placed 5th in 20:05. Sophia Noto of Drake placed 2nd in 19:37. Glennis Murphy of Redwood placed 3rd in 19:45 to help Redwood place 2nd. The Tam Girls team placed 3rd led by Kate Miekley who placed 6th in 20:13.

Marin Academy’s Trevor Reinhart won the Varsity Boys race in a new course record time of 15:52 (5:07). His teammate James Kinney placed 2nd in 16:18 (5:15). MA placed 2nd. Clayton Hutchins (Drake) competed for Cal Poly and placed 18th in 26:33, running his best race of the season according to his coach, Mark Conover.  The Cal Poly team placed 1st. Clayton with the Cal Poly team trophy.
