UPDATED: The Stanford Women’s team and the CAL Men’s team received at-large berths and will be going to the NCAA Championships. Julia Maxwell of Stanford, Fred Huxham of Washington and John Lawson of CAL will be racing at the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, November 21st at E.P. Unofficially it looks like 3 former Marin runners should be going to the Big Dance. These athletes ran well over a challenging course in the rain and mud. The top two teams in each of nine regionals around the country qualified automatically. Thirteen more advance at-large. The fields for the NCAA Championships will be announced Saturday.
The top female former Marin prep runner was Julia Maxwelll of Stanford. Julia ran a well paced and competitive 6km race to finish in 18th place running 21:06.4. The Stanford Women’s team placed 4th racing without their #1 runner Aisling Cuffe. Stanford should earn an at-large berth to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
In the Mens 8km race former Marin prep runners Fred Huxham of Washington and John Lawson of CAL changed leads several times during the race with Fred finishing in 22nd place running 31:37.7.
