The following athletes placed in the top 3 at the NCS Meet of Champions to qualify for the 2015 CIF State Track & Field Championships to be held June 5/6 at Buchanan HS, Clovis.

Glennis Murphy of Redwood placed 4th in the Girls 1600m with the time of 4:51.32. Glennis met the qualifying standard for the State Meet.
I believe Glennis also broke the 40 year old 1600m marin record of Coach Linda Broderick Gill set when she won the State 1600m Championship.
She did!
Congratulations to Glennis Murphy!
I knew that Glennis was a natural talent and a tough competitor when she ran 5:01 as a freshman at the 2014 MOC. When I was a freshman, girls were not allowed to race longer than 880 yards.
When I set the mile record at the 1976 MOC on CAL’s dirt track it was a big deal to break 5 minutes and I still remember coming down the final straightaway with the crowd on its feet. I never thought the record would last 39 years!
I started off the 1976 season barely able to break 6 minutes due to undiagnosed anemia. I credit Coach Bruce Grant for always believing in my potential and creating the perfect plan for the season. He is an amazing coach.
I wish Glennis continued success.
Linda Broderick Gill
Linda, what an honor to receive this message! It’s amazing to see how the opportunities for women in all sports have progressed over the years. Thanks for, literally, blazing trails. Glen appreciated being able to run with Julia Maxwell, and Anna Harleen, last year – you were their coach, yes? Thank you, again. She looks forward to representing Marin in Fresno this weekend –
Marty Murphy
Yes. I decided to retire from high school coaching and had a terrific final season with Julia and Anna. Both athletes are now competing at the college level (Stanford and Williams).
I hope Glennis has a great experience at the State meet and continues to find success and joy in her running.
